Research window for this part: January 1 – December 31, 2020 (use 2019 as the comparison baseline)
Conduct exhaustive research on every significant Hollywood, celebrity, music, royal, reality-TV, influencer, legal, and entertainment-business story of 2020. The goal is a complete, verified, dated record of the year — what happened, how it was first reported, how coverage evolved, what turned out to be true, and how each story ended or where it stands today (as of the research date).
2020 was the year COVID-19 shut down theaters, productions, red carpets, tours, and live events. Celebrity culture moved online into TikTok, Instagram Live, and Zoom; audiences turned against tone-deaf lockdown content; Hollywood faced a racial-justice reckoning; the royals lost two working members to Los Angeles; streaming services launched and died in the same year; and #FreeBritney went mainstream. Also establish the 2019 baseline for comparison.
Treat every named example in this brief as a lead to verify, not a fact. Confirm dates, names, figures, quotes, and outcomes against primary or high-quality sources. Correct or remove anything that does not check out.
The seed lists are starting points, not limits. For every category, find the stories not named here. Aim for at least 300 documented stories across all categories.
Use multiple discovery methods: Google Trends year-in-search data, Wikipedia's "2020 in film / television / music / American television" pages as leads only (verify every item), trade-publication year-end lists, tabloid and magazine archives, court dockets, awards databases, box-office databases, Reddit and social-media archives, and year-end "biggest celebrity stories" lists from multiple outlets.
For each story, create a chronology record (master brief Section 1.2) and a 150–300-word neutral summary covering: what happened; who broke it and when; how coverage evolved; key rumors and whether they held up; primary documents; outcome or current status; and the last-checked date.
Report allegations as allegations. Name accusers only if they identified themselves publicly. Distinguish complaints, charges, rulings, verdicts, dismissals, settlements, and appeals.
Do not speculate about anyone's health, sexuality, gender identity, pregnancy, or mental health. Report only public statements by the person, their family, representatives, or authorities.
Do not repeat unverified rumors about named people unless the rumor itself became a documented news event — and then report its outcome.
Build a complete month-by-month calendar of 2020. For each month, list:
