Hollywood’s 2023 labor story did not end with a single announcement. The writers and actors negotiated separately, and the dates on their statements matter. An agreement in principle, the end of a strike and a membership vote describe different steps.

The writers’ return
On September 26, the Writers Guild of America announced that its leadership had recommended a tentative three-year agreement. The strike would end at 12:01 a.m. Pacific on September 27. Writers could return to work while the membership considered ratification. The announcement explicitly preserved members’ right to make the final decision.
The actors’ announcement
SAG-AFTRA announced its tentative agreement on November 8. Its notice set the strike’s suspension for 12:01 a.m. on November 9 and said picket locations would close. The union described gains involving compensation, AI consent and compensation, and a streaming participation bonus. Those descriptions are the union’s account of its agreement.

The useful comparison is between the two dated notices. Neither notice alone establishes the later ratification result or the terms of a subsequent contract. This archive record follows the return-to-work announcements; it does not present the 2023 agreements as current contract guidance.
